FAQ
Common questions about an uncommon video memoir service:
How much does My Video Memoir cost?
$1200. We invite you to compare that to other services that shoot the video in person, and have their experienced principals (rather than freelancers) do the work.
How and when do I pay?
You may pay by check, or via our secure payment link, using ACH or a credit card. No payment is due until we come out for the video session.
Where do you "film" the video?
We come to your home, typically shooting indoors to better control lighting and sound.
How many people can be in the video session?
Two at most. My Video Memoir is for individuals or couples. Individuals without partners sometimes choose to have an adult child on camera with them. That said, if you have a special need for more than two… let’s talk.
What area do you serve?
Our service area is all of Orange County, California, for our basic fee of $1200. We can also provide our in-home service as far north as Los Angles County and as far south as San Diego County, for an additional fee to cover travel time and expenses.
How long does the video session take?
Approximately 90 minutes, including set-up, the interview, and wrap up of the equipment. Exact time may vary.
How quickly can I get my finished video memoir?
You’ll recieve a fully edited video, for review and approval, within two weeks of your in-home video session.
What days of the week do you shoot videos?
In-home sessions are scheduled Mondays through Saturdays, typically between 9am and 5pm, depending on availability.
Who does the work?
Chuck Kent, our principal, is your videographer, interviewer and video editor. He may come on his own, or bring an assistant with him
Is a video memoir the same as a video biography?
Not necessarily. My Video Memoir is intended as a video keepsake, preserving favorite memories and stories, and letting future generations see and hear you. It is not intended as a complete life history and is typically more affordable than a full biography.
The term “video biography” usually means a longer, more detailed production covering family history in greater detail. In addition to interviewing you as an individual or couple, the production may include numerous photographs and clips from home movies, interviews with other family members or friends, and substantial “B roll” footage (additional scenes, without sound, depicting your life). Some even offer drone footage. Think of these more as “personal documentaries,” and expect to pay accordingly.
What is your process?
Our Process page lays this out in detail, but here are the basics:
- You fill out the contact form, including your phone number. We’ll call you to answer any questions and, if you decide to proceed, to set up a time for the video session. There is no charge for this phone call.
- You receive our discussion guide a few days ahead of the video session, so you’ll have time to gather your thoughts and up to 12 photos to include (which you should have available at the time of the video session).
- On the day of the video session, we will be in your home for approximately 90 minutes, including set-up/take down of equipment and up to 60 minutes of filmed conversation. Chuck Kent, our founder, may come by himself or bring one assistant.
- Within two weeks after the video session, you’ll receive a private link to review and approve the video. The package price includes one round of revisions to the edit, if needed to fix mistakes (e.g., if one of your still photos appears in the wrong place).
- The final edit of the video will remain available for download for six months.
